Substrate Metabolism at Rest and during Steady-State Cycling

Read the study

21 male cyclists and triathletes were randomized into two groups that received supplements twice daily with either Smartfish or a control for four weeks. Researchers measured gas exchange at rest and during 60 minutes of cycling at 85% of each participant’s individual lactate threshold. The results showed that Smartfish increased the respiratory exchange ratio and carbohydrate oxidation during steady-state cycling, while fat oxidation was reduced.

Muscle soreness and explosive power in professional Rugby Union players

Read the study

20 professional rugby players were randomized to consume either Smartfish or a protein-based placebo twice daily over five weeks. The effects were measured through muscle soreness, countermovement jump (CMJ), and mental well-being. The results showed that Smartfish reduced muscle soreness and fatigue, and helped maintain muscle strength and explosiveness compared to day zero.

Eccentric Exercise in Competitive Soccer Players

Read the study

Thirty male football players were divided into three groups that, over six weeks, received supplements twice daily with either a Smartfish-like drink (containing omega-3, whey protein, leucine, and carbohydrates), protein and carbohydrates only, or carbohydrates only. After performing eccentric leg strength exercises, researchers measured recovery over 72 hours. The group receiving the omega-3 blend reported significantly lower muscle soreness and reduced blood creatine kinase levels compared to the other groups.
